Aus3C and partners begin work on voluntary data classification framework
The Australian Cyber Collaboration Centre, CSIRO’s Data61 and the Department of Home Affairs will establish a new standardized data risk assessment framework.
The Australian Cyber Collaboration Center (Aus3C) announced today (November 28) that it is working with the Department of Home Affairs and the CSIRO’s specialist digital unit, Data61, to establish a voluntary cyber classification framework. data, or VDCF.
Designed as part of the National Cyber Security Strategy, the framework will deliver a standardized and unified set of tools to protect data across a range of organizations and industries.
“Industries often struggle to effectively identify and assess the value and sensitivity of their data, which varies significantly across sectors,” Matthew Salier (pictured), CEO of the Australian Cyber Collaboration Centre, said in a press release.
“This lack of a consistent framework leads to difficulties in communicating data risks and implementing appropriate security measures, thereby increasing risks to the business. »
Aus3C will host a series of workshops nationwide so Australian businesses can participate in the process and hear from cybersecurity leaders about the importance of protecting their data.
Once the consultation period is completed, the VDCF will be launched at the end of 2025.
Salier said Aus3C is dedicated to helping Australian organizations focus on valuable data protection and cybersecurity practices.
“Strengthening our nation’s cyber defenses is essential, and all Australian businesses must play their part in protecting the collective security of our data. We must equip all organizations with the tools to navigate this complex environment,” Salier said.
“Our goal is to promote education and resources that empower Australian organizations to take control of their data security. »
