CSIRO recruits new CISO

Jamie Rossato becomes head of information security at Australia’s national science agency.

The CSIRO has appointed a new Chief Information Security Officer, Jamie Rossato.

Rossato comes from being director of information security at Australian drinks giant Lion.

This position was previously held by CSIRO Chief Information Officer Brendan Dalton, from whom Rossato will report.

“We are ensuring that the changes we make through our cyber enhancement program are respected, and we are expanding cyber governance to search technologies and ensuring that we assess the risks of our search technology,” Rossato said . iTnews.

Rossato’s hiring comes as the agency works to bring its new Virga high-performance computing platform fully online. Not only will Virga be used to strengthen CSIRO’s AI-related capabilities, but the new platform will also play a role in the agency’s wider digital transformation.

“The focus is on doing business more efficiently and governing those businesses,” Dalton said. iTnews.

“And then there’s almost the micro-level transformation. We help the [staff] onboarding process, making it more efficient and more secure – ensuring they are on the IT network.
