Lauren Goode: It seems like you’re somewhat in line with the successful tech entrepreneurs who were interviewed by the Palo Alto college in terms of liberality.
Michael Calore: No, I go more left than that, I would say.
Zoe Schiffer: It looks like he might be Yang Gang.
Lauren Goode: Oh, the Yang Gang. I interviewed Andrew Yang once.
Michael Calore: Andrew Yang was one of the first big proponents of universal basic income in the political sphere, right?
Lauren Goode: Yes, indeed he was.
Michael Calore: Well, I don’t know anything else about him, so I can’t say if I’m actually Yang Gang or not.
Lauren Goode: Mike is going to create another third just for UBI.
Michael Calore: Oh, boy. There is no government like no government, I always say.
Lauren Goode: Are you saying that?
Michael Calore: OK, Lauren, I’ll send it back to you. Where do you think this will take us in the future?
Lauren Goode: I’m having a really hard time saying where this is going politically because I’m so confused by what’s happening in politics right now and I’m still trying to sort it out. I think there will be more factions of self-proclaimed libertarianism and people co-opting certain left and right ideals. But I think the original word loses its meaning.
Michael Calore: Agreed. I like this new word, liberal.
Lauren Goode: Yeah, but again, this is from 2020 and things change quickly.
Michael Calore: Zoe, and you?
Zoe Schiffer: I think we’re going to see more privatizations than before. Right now we have people like Elon Musk, who is supposed to run the Department of Government Effectiveness, or DOGE, with Vivek Ramaswamy, and they want to get rid of the Department of Education. So I suspect we’re going to see private sector solutions to problems that government used to solve.
Lauren Goode: And in our next episode of Uncanny Valleywe’re going to feature all the very successful companies that have been led by two CEOs at the same time.
