A new report rates countries on their level of cybersecurity preparedness, with Australia ranking 30th and Sweden leading.

New research has revealed bad news for our friends in New Zealand’s Tasman Sea.

When it comes to cybersecurity, the country is one of the least prepared countries in the world.

It’s not the worst – that rather dubious honor goes to Mexico – but it is the third worst, according to a new study from password management company Psono.

However, this is much better news for Sweden, which is the best prepared country in the world when it comes to cybersecurity.

Psono’s research takes into account five key factors. The first two are Statista’s Global Cybersecurity Index and its ranking of countries in terms of personal data exposed to data breaches. Psono also looked at examples of the search term “How to create a strong password” per 100,000 residents, the number of cybersecurity professionals in the country, and its digital competitiveness ranking.

The Global Cybersecurity Index accounts for 80 percent of the final ranking, with the other four factors each weighted 5 percent.

With this in mind, the five best prepared countries in the world are Sweden, Singapore, Germany, Denmark and the Czech Republic.

The five least prepared countries are Mexico, Egypt, New Zealand, Peru and Argentina. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Nigeria, home to some of the most active organized spam networks in the world, ranks as the sixth most unprepared country.

Australia is well outside the top 10, ranking as the 30th best prepared country in the world. We are actually better prepared than the rest of our Five Eyes Alliance partners, for example, but still lagging behind countries like South Korea, Iceland and Japan.

“When it comes to protecting yourself against data security threats, it’s crucial to focus on a few key areas: public awareness and professional support. Countries with a higher density of cybersecurity professionals per capita and strong public engagement in practices such as creating secure passwords tend to be better prepared to deal with cyber threats,” said a spokesperson. words of Psono in a press release.

“It is important to regularly update your security practices, for example by using strong, unique passwords and ensuring that individuals and businesses have access to the appropriate cybersecurity expertise. Staying up to date with the latest threats and best practices can go a long way in keeping your data secure.
