PlayStation Network offline during global outage

Gamers around the world are flocking to forums to share their woes and theories about the massive disruptions to PlayStation’s online service.

Thousands of gamers who were expecting a relaxing session of their favorite PlayStation games have only been disappointed as the PlayStation Network faces a global outage.

The Network Service Status page for Sony’s popular gaming console currently reports that “Some services are experiencing issues.”

Account Management, Games & Social, PlayStation Video, and PlayStation Store are all reporting roughly the same issue.

“You may have difficulty launching games, applications, or network features,” the status page currently says.

“We are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. Thanks for your patience.

The issue – which is currently unknown – also affected the PlayStation Direct service; however, this is now restored. The problem appears to have started around four hours ago, when players massively took to Reddit to share their frustrations.

“I was playing Red Dead Online with a friend, then we both suddenly left the party and the game crashed, then I tried to start Rocket League and it just won’t load. Does anyone have the same problem? said a player in a Reddit thread on /r/PS5.

The thread now has over 4,500 replies, most along the same lines. However, some also share their suspicions about the possible cause of the outage.

“This is probably the worst crash I’ve ever seen on PlayStation. This must be a hack, the last time the servers crashed this bad was during the PS3 hack,” another player said.

“If you can’t even load into the store, then it’s absolutely necessary, it’s the last thing they’re going to let fail.”

The PlayStation outage came an hour after US telecommunications giant Verizon resumed service following a seven-hour outage.

For the moment, Sony has not specified the cause of the disruption. Cyber Daily has contacted PlayStation Australia for comment.
